12 oz. package fresh cranberries
4 c. vodka
2 c. sugar
1 c. water
Peel of 2 oranges
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 whole cloves
1 stick cinnamon
Rinse & pick over cranberries. Place in a blender or food processor & process thoroughly. Add vodka & place in a dark glass bottle or jar with a tight fitting cap. Let stand 3 days. Strain through a fine mesh, pushing against solids. Discard solids
reserve strained puree. Place sugar, water, cloves, cinnamon & orange peel in a saucepan & bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat & simmer 30 minutes. Remove orange peel & stir in almond extract. Pour sugar syrup over strained cranberry mixture. Strain again, through paper coffee filter, then pour into bottle & cap tightly. Mature at least 1 week before serving
gets more mellow with age. Makes 1 1/2 quarts.
