Frozen People
You have to like a gag that results in spontaneous applause. No harm done... even the cleaning guy seemed ok with it.

How did they not fall over! Or laugh when people poked them???
I think they are mostly actors, so that is something they know how to do... control themselves... at least on stage.
Five minutes is a long time to stay completely still. And some people had their arms out or something that would be hard to hold. In addition to the statues there had to be a number of people to film people's reactions. I wonder what cue they used to get everyone moving at the same time? I suspect the maintenance guy was a plant otherwise how did they get his voice?
I was only in a few plays in college, but is funny how often you are called to pose perfectly still as someone has to pause and talk to the audience or think out loud.
I questioned the cleaning guy recording, but I think it was real. They pulled the sound off the broadcast either 1. a walkie talkie set to the same frequency or 2. a tape if such things are routinely recorded by the engineering staff or 3. they may have had a shotgun microphone.
I found more scoop on a blog about the event (just happened last week).

Some of the people talking were actually people involved talking to strangers and asking them what they thought. However, it appears that the maintenance guy was real and luckily only showed up at the very end (I still think he may have been a voiceover).
I just donated $5 in response to their "bandwidth" overcharge problem. This mission really was the best one. We also enjoyed Home Depot, Best Buy, Abercombie, Synch Swimming, and Hypnotist Redux. Suicide seemed more like a sidewalk play. $5 is more than we would pay to rent a movie. Times are changing. Tough times for TV.
