Dichotomy II
May 7 - If you have read Winter's Tale, then you would know about the ever-foreboding mystical thick white cloud wall that hangs around the harbor. Well, my town totally has one of those, it hangs right over the mountain range so you can hardly see their tops at times, and can stay there for days before it decides to creep its way over and fog up the whole place. Really very beautiful.
I adore Arpine. She's one of my favorite people in this town. Yesterday, told me she would really like to run! So I said, okay, let's pick a date and we can start going together. But then she said, "but I can't do that because I have to live here all of my life, and that won't work with the people here." So I said, let's walk. And she doubtfully said, "maybe... (shrug)." Let down.
Isn't that terrible that every body is too scared of what every body else thinks if they do something extra ordinary, even if it's something that they have an expressed desire to do? So they won't give it a try, they will go through life wondering "what would that have been like?" And even worse, the town will never be tested on its ideals because every thing is so durn molded and not many folks can break away. And then nothing changes for future generations and so it goes, on and on and on and on....
(is this where survival of the fittest eventually fits into humanity?)
America embraces invention, boldness, and uniqueness. How beautiful and lucky it is to be an American.

Yes, Nicole, we are so fortunate to have been born in this great country with all of our freedoms and opportunities. I know you will always appreciate living here when you return, but what a wonderful experience and eye opener you are getting. You will be so much better in many ways - appreciative, patient, understanding, caring. And, I hope this will be with you for the rest of your life! It's easy to take so much for granted and complain!
Love,
Gramalie
