Water Factory and Cherry Economics
July 1 - Today we went to the Bjni water bottle factory. That was very interesting. It was built in 1974. We saw the entire process of bottling water, and we even saw the train carts that these bottles are exported on to Russia (and one .5 L bottle goes for a wholesale price of 400 dram to Russia, which is over $1; one train cart holds over 6,000 bottles). My favorite part was the beginning, in which the bottles are shaped like these little green and blue plastic test tubes, then they are put through a machine that shoots air into them (like a balloon) very quickly and shapes them into the bottles. According to our CBD trainer, this is the most organized business he has seen by far in Armenia. It was very organized.
I also received the new t-shirt in the mail today! It's great and I like the green! I am all ready wearing it, and my friends like it a lot too! I'll wear it next week when you guys are enjoying your journey (I'll be there in spirit)! Thank you!
Thursday we have language assessments. I will also be making apricot cobbler for our 4th of July celebration.
I have been helping my family pick very plump black cherries and learning more and more about the farm as well as where they sell their produce and why they sell at different locations at different times of the year. I've also learned about their pricing system. We have four different kinds of cherries. Black cherries, white cherries, red/yellow cherries, and "bjni" - which have thinner skin, are more sour, and are brighter red than a black cherry but not your regular red cherry. We also have several herbs like rosemary, dill, and cilantro. Spinach. Fruits and veggies as far as I know are strawberries/raspberries/tomatoes/cucumbers/pears/apricots for July and August, wheat fields on the way to Charentsavan for September, apples for October, and potatoes for sometime but I don't know when. Eggs are straight from the hens and milk, yogurt, and cheese straight from the cow. I don't believe we sell the eggs and the dairy. Right now we have little green apples but the ones in October will be much larger.
