B: Turn Volume on, Click on the Horses
J: Did you just send me a link intentionally? I
haven't clicked because it looks odd.
B: I sent you a link, yes
B: it's virus free
J: Clyde (my dog) is barking.
J: This is funny.
B: It's simple but cute
B: how are you these days?
J: Need to thank you for introducing me to
geocaching.com.
J: My Dad is so tickled by the whole thing he
wants to set up a cache on Tybee Island for his 70th
birthday (later this month.0
J: )
B: are you geocaching these days?
B: or is your dad?
J: We both have along with my brother Ted
and my son Danny.
B: are you logging your finds on the website, and
if so, what is your handle?
J: Yes we are. Handle is "fishback" and name
is Charlie Fishback.
B: cool, you found 1984
J: I'm trying to find a travel bug link w/ a
photo...just a sec...
J: For a photo of Clyde (whom you made
bark)
J: Go here and scroll down to the "Clyde and
Misty" link on Aug 3.
J:
http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=3
4630
B: looking now
B: 600 miles travelled, very nice
B: I'm glad to see another convert
J: My Dad calls my GPS a "geiger counter".
B: I'd be happy to recommend lots of gecaches
around the Atlanta area
B: some of the best caches in nature area
(around Atlanta) are just South of you (check out Yellow
River Stash as an example)
J: I'll take a few recommendations, since there
are so many to choose from.
B: that should have read "nature areas"
B: for a fun two stage cache, take your Son to
Needle in a Haystack (brand new, in the Lawrenceville
area)
B: for an interesting cache in Buckhead, check
out Buckhead Dragon
B: My log for 1984 is also on the web page, my
handle is TinSparrow
J: That one was tough. When we brought my
brother, the structural engineer, back a second time, he
found it in 5 minutes.
B: for 1984, I went to the roof to get the best
possible bearing (assuming that the hider had done the
same thing), and then I searched locations on other levels
at about that spot
J: We did that, but our readings were about
50 feet off for some reason.
B: every GPS unit has some fluctuation, and if
the hider's unit was flucuating by 30 feet and mine is as
well, the combined error is easily a 60 foot radius
J:

B: the red circle seems reasonably accurate,
although it would be more accurate if it were a bit up and
right
B: (as it appears in the picture)
B: something else in your area, look for Are you
in the Loop
J: I'm not sure I would have ever thought
small enough. Great idea.
B: Also, the oldest geocache in Georgia is near
you, check out Beaver Cache
B: I'll send you an email with the other links I've
mentioned
J: Thanks! I'm saving all of these as our next
targets!
B: Here is a new Hallowwe'en cache in
Lawrenceville
B: maybe I can cross link some caches by
subject. Does you son have any hobbies? You father
have any special interests?
J: Danny likes baseball.
J: Dad likes civil war and forts.
J: Hence my nickname, Jeb.
J: (I'm really Daniel.)
B: no problem, hold on
B: For Civil War
B: :
B: it wil be easier if I list names of cache, and I'll
try and provide links later
B: Look for "A Beginning and an End"
B: Battle of Peachtree Creek
B: Fallen Soldiers
J: We can do the search based on names.
B: yes, the site allow search based upon words
of five characters or more
B: Civil War also:
B: The Lyin' Cache (interesting)
B: Casey's Hill
B: and for Baseball:
J: My brother, Ted, thought of another good
GPS on-line database project... digital photos of
historical markers and their position.
B: Aaron's Home
B: Georgia once had an index page which linked
to most of their markers and their position, but when I
look at the bookmark it does not seem to resolve any
longer
B: baseball:
B: nope, my error, markers here:
http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/gahistmarkers/
gamarkerscontents.htm
B: some of the markers give coordinates, as I
recall
B: but their site could be improved
B: Aaron's Home
B: Buckhead Baseball
J: I think Carl has something of a closed
system going, but that is a great start.
J: Is that Hank Aaron's current home? Hope
he doesn't mind us coming over. :-O
B: Ty Cobb Memorial in Royston Georgie
B: and several Shoeless Joe Jackson caches in
Greenville Sc
B: It's his old home
J: Thanks for these tips. This will be much
more fun than watching the Braves lose (which is what
we are doing right now.)
B: And, if you want a fun challenge, try Rock of
Ages in Winder
J: That's yours isn't it?
B: No, Fallen Soldiers mentioned earlier is mine
in Jonesboro
B: But I would be very proud if I had done
Rock of Ages
J: OK... I've got it all stashed:
http://mac.fiveforks.com/jeb/blog/
B: I'm flattered
B: Please, please, ask me questions/advice on
hunting geocaches
B: I have done a great many around the Atlanta
rea
B: area
J: Will do. Dad wants me to train him to use
the "geiger counter" so he can do it himself.
B: I have a great time doing this, and I receive
puzzled looks from many people
B: My dad also shows an interest in this,
although he does not own a GPD yet
J: You may want to crack open a window...
you should be able to hear Chicago in about 30
seconds...
J: Hear that?
J: First post-season win since 1908.
B: good for Chicago
B: I recall back when I was in the Navy in Great
Lakes in 1984 they came very close, but did not get it
J: I'm happy for them, really. They almost
went a whole century without winning!
B: I'm happy for them too
J: Well... off to bed. I really appreciate the
tips. You'll see more of Charlie Fishback soon!
B: have a gopod night
B: good
B: even
