"Aye! There's the Rub!"

In my lit class we're watching Hamlet(the Mel Gibson version). It's not as difficult to understand as I thought it would be. We had to go though the book and find famous quotes such as: "Frailty thy name is woman!," and "There are more things in heaven and earth then are dreamt of in your philosiphy, Horatio!," and you can't forget, "To be or not to be, that is the question!" What I understand so far is that Hamlet's father (the king) was poisned by his brother, who took the throne and married the Queen. The ghost of the King appears to Hamlet and tells him to get revenge on the brother. Hamlet then acts insane to try and figure out whats going on with the new King. Thats as far as we've gone. Pretty intresting. Or should I say, "This hast brought upon myself a feeling of Inspiration! methinks this good work ist profitable to wont with thyself!"

oh geez. i hate reading shakespeare. i'm not smart enough. but you probably are. how's the book coming along? heehee

(p.s. i din't sign my name just for you heehee)

UT:

My favorite thing about reading Shakespeare was always the famous quotes. You'll just be reading along and trying to figure out what the heck they are talking about when something like "To be or not to be" shows up. And you can learn the context of what he's really thinking about when he says it, rather than it just being some line that Gilligan sings.

I read Othello in AP English in the 12th grade and we really spent a lot of time on it, so that has to be one of my favorites. And every now and then Susan and I will to the Shakespeare Tavern to get dinner and watch a play (they have dessert at intermission; yum!). The actors are really hammy, but you always get a good seat, well within range of getting spit on while the actors belt out their lines (which is one reason to finish dinner before the play starts).

Gramalie:

Eric - I envy you getting to read Shakespeare at such an early age and even understanding it! Sounds like you are taking advantage of opportunities to enrich your life! Go Eric!

Jules:
